How much is patio cleaning in Redhill, and can you get it done for summer?
The short answer: patio cleaning in Redhill (RH1) starts at £3 per square metre for concrete slabs and £4 to £8 for Indian sandstone, so most 30m² patios land between £120 and £240, £80 minimum. Patio cleaning means pre-treating the moss and algae, working the whole surface at the right pressure for the stone, hand-lancing the joints and edges, then dealing with the aftermath: spores killed off with a biocide so it stays clean, slurry cleared, everything bagged and taken away. On natural stone that last part matters as much as the wash itself, and it is the difference between a patio you can put the table back on and a green mess by autumn.
Key facts: patio cleaning in Redhill (RH1)
- From £3/m² for concrete slabs, £4–£8/m² for Indian sandstone, in line with our published price list. £80 minimum charge.
- Moss and algae treatment is included on every patio clean, never an extra. Black spot removal is quoted on top.
- Heavy moss, established black spot or years without a clean can add up to 50%, the same uplift our cost calculator uses.
- Redhill sits on the damp floor of the Vale of Holmesdale, between the North Downs Chalk and the Lower Greensand ridge, mapped by the British Geological Survey[1], so RH1 patios green over faster than the chalk up the hill.
- No hosepipe ban here: SES Water, which supplies RH1, has no ban in place as of 9 July 2026, so summer cleaning is business as usual.
Patio cleaning prices in Redhill (RH1)
Real ranges, no “from £19” nonsense that turns into £90 on the doorstep. The table below is built from the same rates as our pricing page and cost calculator, applied to the patio sizes and surfaces we actually see around RH1. The honest local difference is the stone: a lot of Redhill gardens are laid in Indian sandstone or limestone rather than plain concrete slabs, and natural stone takes lower pressure, the right chemistry and a proper rinse, so most jobs here sit in the £4 to £8 band rather than at the £3 bottom end.
| Patio size | Concrete slabs (£3–£5/m²) | Indian sandstone (£4–£8/m²) | Typical RH1 example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small (15–20m²) | £80–£100 | £80–£160 | Courtyard behind a Redstone Hill terrace |
| Average (30m²) | £90–£150 | £120–£240 | Semi garden in Merstham or Earlswood |
| Large (40–50m²) | £120–£250 | £160–£400 | Detached garden, Salfords or South Nutfield |
| Extra-large (60m²+) | £180–£300 | £240–£480 | Bigger plots around Nutfield |
£80 minimum on every job. Established black spot, heavy moss or years without a clean can add up to 50% for the extra pre-treatment and dwell time. On the biggest patios the m² rate eases, ask when we quote. Want it pinned down now? Try the cost calculator or send a photo. Full national context is in our patio cleaning cost guide.

Indian sandstone, limestone, concrete and block-paved patios in Redhill
Redhill sits on the floor of the Vale of Holmesdale, the low corridor between the North Downs Chalk and the Lower Greensand ridge, a boundary the British Geological Survey maps straight through the town[1]. Valley-floor air holds its damp, and damp is what algae, moss and black spot want. Drive up onto the chalk at Banstead and patios stay drier for longer; down here the shaded half of a patio greens over first, every time. What that means for each surface:
- Indian sandstone and limestone in the older gardens. Plenty of Redhill gardens, especially around the town centre and the Redstone Hill conservation area, were landscaped in natural stone. It looks lovely and it also grows things. Full pressure scours the surface and strips the joints, so we work it low and slow with a surface cleaner and let the chemistry lift the green. The method is written up in our Indian sandstone cleaning guide.
- Black spot on the shaded patios. Small black dots that don’t scrub off are black spot lichen, rooted into the stone rather than sitting on it. We find it constantly on shaded RH1 sandstone. A pressure washer alone will not shift it and blasting spreads the spores, so it needs a hypochlorite treatment with proper dwell time. More on it below and in our black spot guide.
- Concrete slabs on the newer estates. Merstham, Salfords and the newer RH1 developments run to concrete or riven-effect slabs. These clean up fast, often at or near the £80 minimum, and the difference between grey-green and its original colour is startling.
- Block-paved patios. Some RH1 patios are laid in the same blocks as the drive. The joints are the weak point: sand washes out, moss moves in. We wash, kill the weeds and re-sand the joints where needed, priced as an option so you only pay for what you ask for.
Black spot: the one to catch before summer
If your Redhill sandstone has small black dots that don’t shift when you scrub, that’s black spot lichen, and it’s the single most common patio problem we’re called out for in RH1. It’s rooted into the stone, not on it, so a pressure washer alone will not remove it, and blasting at it spreads the spores and roughs up the surface so it comes back thicker. The honest answer is chemistry: a sodium hypochlorite treatment with proper dwell time after the wash, quoted on top of the standard clean so you know the figure before we start.
Caught early it’s a straightforward add-on. Left for years it can get so established the stone never comes fully back, which is exactly why late spring and summer are the time to deal with it. The full story, what it is, what the DIY tubs cost and what we charge, is in our guide to black spot on Indian sandstone.
What’s included in a Redhill patio clean
- Walk the patio first. Surface, condition, pointing, black spot, drainage and any loose or cracked slabs. If a repair is what you actually need, we say so rather than wash over the problem.
- Pre-treat. Moss and algae get a sodium hypochlorite treatment before the water goes near it. The dilution and dwell time do the work, not brute pressure, which matters even more on soft natural stone.
- Wash at the right pressure. Surface cleaner across the field of the patio for an even, stripe-free finish, then the lance for edges, steps and the awkward bits by the borders. Lower pressure on sandstone and limestone.
- Treat and finish. A biocide over the cleaned surface kills the spores in the joints so it stays clean, and block-paved patios can be re-sanded where needed.
- Tidy up. Slurry and debris bagged and taken away, paths and borders rinsed down. We leave the patio clean and the rest of the garden no worse than we found it, no tide line of slurry across your lawn.
Optional extras, priced honestly: black spot treatment (quoted on top after we’ve seen how established it is) and sealing after the clean. Half of Surrey patios don’t need sealing at all, and sealing porous sandstone in the wrong season traps moisture, so we’ll only quote it where it earns its keep.
Streets and neighbourhoods we cover
All of RH1 is home turf: central Redhill and the town-centre terraces, the Redstone Hill conservation area, Merstham, Salfords, Earlswood, Nutfield and South Nutfield, from the Victorian gardens near the station to the estates along the Brighton Road corridor. Next door, Reigate (RH2) and the rest of Surrey within 20 miles. See everything we clean in Redhill, and while we’re at your place it’s worth bundling: a driveway clean on the same visit is cheaper than two callouts, and we also do gutters and render soft washing across RH1.
Why patio quotes vary
Two Redhill patios the same size can be £100 apart, and the reasons are boring but real: surface type, condition, how much shade the garden gets, and whether black spot treatment or sealing is in scope. Anyone quoting a flat “any patio £60” is cutting one of those corners, the maths doesn’t work otherwise, and we’ve set out the full cost build-up in our UK patio cleaning cost guide. If your patio next door in Reigate needs doing too, there’s a dedicated page for patio cleaning in Reigate with the same honest rates.
Can you do same-day patio cleaning in Redhill?
Often, yes, because we’re actually here. We’re a 2-man crew based in Redhill, not a national platform sub-contracting your job to whoever’s free in Croydon. Having people over at the weekend and the patio’s green? Call early and there’s a fair chance we fit you in today or tomorrow. July is our busiest month, so the earlier you call the better your chance of a summer slot. Worst case, callback within two hours, Sundays included. Call 01737 652 515 and we’ll tell you honestly what we can do.
